With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, you might be tempted to open up a bottle of wine. But what if your significant other is also in the mood for ice cream? Most wine professionals suggest that this is an impossible pairing and that you should go with a sip of whiskey or beer instead. Luckily, at Froyo Gelato Supplies we don’t believe in impossible. So we talked to some wine experts and got their opinions on the best Wine and Ice Cream pairings.
Mint Chocolate Ice Cream
In addition to Valentine’s Day, we also have St. Patrick’s Day around the corner. After all, who doesn’t love a good Shamrock Shake at McDonalds? So if you are in the mood for something minty, we suggest going with an Australian Shiraz. It’s a red raspberry and chocolate nuances go perfectly with the mint and chocolate.
Plain Frozen Yogurt
Greek frozen yogurt can have a bit of a sour taste so for this wine we will want to go with a similar tart flavor that can be found in Vin Santo. This wine consists of aged white wine grapes that provide a rich and acidity combination. If you are looking to take things up a notch you can also try serving some baked apples or pears to make this an irresistible experience.
Salted Caramel Ice Cream
Last but certainly not least, we have a wine that’s perfect for the salty and sweet combination found in this ice cream. Pedro Ximenez is a dark and complex wine that creates a sweetness of sherries, with notes of caramel, raisin, and espresso.
These are just a few of the different ice cream and wine combinations you can try. But we encourage you to experiment yourself and see what wine pairings you enjoy.
